Description Dartmouth College Sailing: Where Tradition, Excellence, and Innovation Converge For more than ninety years, Dartmouth College has been a powerhouse in collegiate sailing—an enduring tradition that continues to propel the Big Green to national prominence. With five national championships and over sixty (67 individuals honored) All‑Americans produced across its storied history, Dartmouth Sailing stands as one of the most consistently competitive programs in the country. Today, that legacy of excellence is entering its most exciting chapter yet. A Program at the Leading Edge of Collegiate Sailing Dartmouth’s sailors are known for grit, precision, and unmatched work ethic—qualities that have kept both the Open and Women’s teams consistently ranked among the nation’s best. Recent regatta results underscore this strength: in fall 2025, Dartmouth delivered top‑tier showings at high‑profile events such as the Urn Trophy (2nd of 15), the Schell Trophy (5th of 18), and the Women’s Atlantic Coast Championship (3rd of 18), reinforcing the program’s competitive momentum. These achievements reflect a culture built not only on athletic excellence but also on leadership and community. Dartmouth sailors demonstrate discipline on the water and in the classroom, making the program a magnet for driven student‑athletes who aim to push themselves at every level. A State‑of‑the‑Art Sailing Center Designed for Champions The newest symbol of Dartmouth Sailing’s bright future is its transformative new facility on Mascoma Lake—a $13 million project funded entirely through philanthropic giving. Completed in fall 2024, the ‘Tim and Barbara Michels Family Boathouse’ represents one of the most significant facility upgrades in collegiate sailing. The complex features a 6,000‑square‑foot boathouse paired with a 2,800‑square‑foot boat barn, designed to blend seamlessly into the lakeside landscape while delivering world‑class functionality. Inside, student‑athletes benefit from varsity locker rooms, a team room, dedicated coaching spaces, equipment‑drying technology, and modern amenities tailored to high‑performance training. A fully rigged storage system—made possible by a soaring 24‑foot barn door—means boats can be stored with masts and sails up, saving valuable practice time and boosting daily operational efficiency. This major upgrade replaces the 1950s‑era boathouse, long outdated and unable to support the program’s competitive ambitions. The new facility also includes a viewing room and expansive deck, giving spectators, alumni, and visiting teams an unmatched vantage point over Mascoma Lake’s sweeping mountain views. Beyond the varsity program, the Sailing Center supports Dartmouth’s broader mission—serving physical‑education classes, community boating programs, and youth camps throughout the summer. An Exceptional Place to Coach, Teach, and Lead With cutting‑edge facilities, a nationally competitive team culture, and passionate community support, Dartmouth College offers an unparalleled environment for professionals seeking to advance their careers in collegiate sailing. The program’s momentum—powered by strategic investment and historic strength—creates a dynamic workplace where coaches and staff can make a lasting impact. Whether shaping the next generation of champions, expanding community sailing initiatives, or contributing to the continued growth of a top‑ranked program, working with Dartmouth Sailing means becoming part of an inspiring legacy and an even more exciting future.
