The course emphasizes perspective-taking, culturally sustaining teaching practices, global and community-based education, and Indigenous education. Students learn through a combination of on-campus coursework and an immersive educational experience abroad that includes school and community visits, engagement with local educators, and collaboration with university faculty and students. During the 2027 study abroad experience in Ecuador, students will explore educational and cultural contexts in Quito and surrounding areas and spend significant time collaborating with students and educators at Saminay, an Indigenous school in Otavalo.
