The Network Administrator is an entry-level technical position responsible for assisting in the monitoring, maintenance, and basic administration of Hampton University’s network infrastructure. This role supports daily operations of the University’s wired and wireless networks, legacy and IP-based phone systems, and related communication services under close supervision.

Examples of Duties
- Assist with the monitoring and support of the University's network infrastructure, including wired, wireless, and telecommunications systems; identify performance issues and escalate complex problems as appropriate.
- Associate’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, Networking, Telecommunications, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Knowledge of TCP/IP networking fundamentals, including routing, switching, and network connectivity concepts.
- Experience with or familiarity with network infrastructure components, including switches, routers, and wireless access points.
- Knowledge of Voice over IP (VoIP), telecommunications systems, or related communication technologies.
- Demonstrated troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and follow established procedures and technical guidance.
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Networking, Telecommunications, or a related field.
- CompTIA Network+, CCNA, or similar industry certification.
- Experience administering or supporting Microsoft Windows Server environments and Microsoft Hyper-V virtualization technologies.
- Experience supporting VoIP, unified communications, or cloud-based telephony platforms such as RingCentral.
- Experience working in a higher education, public sector, or enterprise IT environment.
- Experience creating and maintaining technical documentation, user guides, and knowledge base articles.
- Standard office environment with periodic visits to wiring closets, datacenters, and campus buildings.
- May require lifting of equipment up to 40 lbs.
- Occasional evening or weekend work to support scheduled maintenance, emergencies or University events.
