Offer Description
Role and responsibilities
We seek an accomplished NMR scientist experienced in research infrastructure management to ensure the Platform's highest scientific and technical standards. With technical staff and institutional services, the appointee will coordinate daily scientific operations, instrument readiness, performance optimisation, maintenance, scheduling, user access and laboratory workflows.
They will provide expert advice and hands-on support in feasibility assessment, experimental design, pulse-sequence selection, acquisition, processing, spectral interpretation and troubleshooting. A priority is designing, implementing, optimising, validating and disseminating new pulse sequences and advanced experiments, adapting acquisition to demanding samples and emerging questions in biomolecular structure and dynamics, molecular recognition, metabolomics, screening and related fields.
As Research Associate Professor and principal scientific contact for users across the Basque Country, Spain, Europe and beyond, they will coordinate access and ensure efficient, fair, responsive and rigorous services. They will maintain documented workflows, quality control, reproducibility and data-management procedures, meeting applicable quality standards and ICTS and Instruct-ERIC access requirements.
Duties include user training, staff mentoring, collaborations, publications, funding proposals and independent or collaborative research in advanced NMR methods and applications. Working with the NMR scientific leader, they will implement strategic priorities and ensure reliable, sustainable operations.
Candidate profile
A PhD in chemistry, biophysics, structural biology or a related field is required, alongside deep hands-on NMR expertise and extensive experience in advanced instrumentation and experimental methods. Proven ability to coordinate complex NMR facilities, resolve scientific and technical problems and support diverse users is especially relevant.
Applicants should demonstrate scientific contributions, intellectual independence, methodological development and collaborative research. Original work on pulse-sequence design, advanced multidimensional NMR and experimental optimisation is particularly valued. Competitive funding, project leadership, training and international engagement are assets, as is experience with high-field spectrometers, cryogenic probes, automation, standard operating procedures and quality systems.
Applications
Submit a cover letter; full CV including scientific outputs and funding; a statement on experience in NMR facility operations, user services and methodological innovation; a proposed scientific and operational development plan for the Platform; and contact details for three referees.
Deadline: November 30th 2026.
