Offer Description
Scientific mission and responsibilities
We seek an internationally recognised scientist with the vision to develop the NMR Platform as a cross-disciplinary resource for molecular discovery and precision biomedicine. Its broad scope spans molecular structure, dynamics and recognition, metabolic phenotyping, chemical biology, drug discovery and complex biological systems. Epidemiological and population-scale NMR studies are an important application, but do not define the position.
The Research Professor will define and implement a long-term advanced NMR roadmap, build an independent, internationally competitive research programme and foster collaborations across CIC bioGUNE and beyond. A key objective is to connect quantitative NMR with complementary technologies, including metabolomics, proteomics, glycomics and computational approaches, exploring AI and integrated molecular data analysis.
They will develop or enable innovative NMR methods and applications, promote interdisciplinary projects with universities, hospitals, technology centres and industry, and attract competitive national and international funding. Duties include mentoring researchers, building strategic scientific partnerships and enhancing the facility's visibility in European infrastructures and networks.
Working closely with the Platform's operational lead, they will set scientific priorities and turn facility capabilities into research opportunities while maintaining transparent access and high-quality services for internal and external users.
Candidate profile
Applicants must hold a PhD in chemistry, biochemistry, biophysics, molecular biosciences or a related field, with an outstanding international NMR research record. Relevant expertise includes biomolecular and structural NMR, molecular interactions and dynamics, quantitative metabolomics, chemical biology or other advanced NMR applications.
Candidates should demonstrate scientific independence, recognised leadership, influential publications, success in securing substantial competitive funding and an ability to build interdisciplinary collaborations. Experience managing multidisciplinary scientific programmes and a compelling vision for integrating NMR with complementary technologies are particularly valued. AI or large-scale data-analysis expertise is welcome but not required.
Applications
Submit a cover letter; full CV including publications and competitive funding; a statement of scientific vision and research plans, including the proposed contribution to the NMR Platform and future Integrated Molecular Intelligence Platform; and contact details for three referees.
Deadline: November 30th 2026.
