Position Description

James Cook University (JCU) is creating a brighter future for life in the Tropics and beyond, through education and research that makes a difference locally and globally.

Bring your data and analytics leadership to JCU and make your mark in a newly created senior role. You’ll lead talented technical professionals, strengthen JCU’s enterprise data capability and help build the foundations for our future analytics and AI ambitions, with your work supporting better decision-making across the University.

  • Full-time, continuing opportunity | 36.25 hours per week
  • Based at the Townsville Bebegu Yumba campus, Douglas
  • Attractive competitive remuneration package plus up to 17% employer superannuation

ABOUT THE ROLE

This role offers an exciting opportunity to help shape how JCU uses data to support better decision-making. You’ll have the opportunity to influence the development of JCU’s data capability, helping turn complex information into meaningful organisational insight and building solutions that respond to the evolving needs of the University.

Working across JCU, you’ll bring together technology, people and business priorities to deliver practical, future-focused solutions. You’ll lead a multidisciplinary data engineering team, build strong partnerships across the University and have genuine scope to shape the future direction of JCU’s data, analytics and AI capability.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE ROLE

You’re an experienced data and analytics professional who can see the bigger picture while still understanding what it takes to deliver technically complex solutions.

You’ll bring strong experience across business intelligence, data warehousing, enterprise databases and data pipelines, along with the ability to navigate complex environments and turn business needs into practical solutions. You’ll be confident building relationships across a large organisation, explaining complex technical concepts clearly and influencing decisions at different levels.

As a leader, you’ll enjoy developing people and creating an environment where technical expertise, new ideas and collaboration can thrive. You’ll bring curiosity, sound judgement and advanced problem-solving skills, with the confidence to work through ambiguity, lead complex projects and provide clear, well-considered advice.

You’ll also hold a relevant postgraduate qualification, be progressing towards one, or bring an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
